Rome is known as the capital of Italy and also the capital of Italian culture, which is why it is on every list of the places that you have to see in your lifetime. From the Pantheon to the Colosseum to the Trevi Fountain, there are so many sites to see but to do so you need somewhere to lay your head and rest your aching feet as well! It is essential to book a Rome hotel or hostel room before you head there given the high volume of tourists that pass through there every single week.

Rome hotels are just as expensive as everything else is in the city – more so than most other European cities. As such, you need to look for accommodation to suit your budget and there is more than enough choice there for you. With over 500 Rome hotels, hostels and rental apartments, you can find the room you are looking for. Hostels are, of course, the cheapest at upwards of EUR 25 to EUR 40 a night. They only have basic facilities but are ideal for students and travellers. Be aware though that pick pocketing and petty theft is rife in Rome so you will need to keep your valuables close. Most are located outside of the city centre though so check out what transport is available.

If you want to stay in one of the many Rome hotels then you will have to pay at least EUR 50 per night as very few hotels offer cheaper rooms. However, the price of a room will vary from month to month. The more visitors there are in a month, the more expensive a room will be. The price is also based on where the hotel is. The further away from the centre of the city Rome hotels are the cheaper they will be. However, if you have never been to Rome before then the more expensive downtown area is the best place to stay. Choosing a Rome hotel near the Pantheon, for example, might be a little expensive but you will be able to walk to all attractions and be able to truly experience the city.

Here is a tip for you though – if you are staying in Rome for more than a few nights then try renting an apartment. It would work out cheaper and give you more freedom to do as you please.
